With metal bats the grips are tacky, padded and generally comfortable, so I don't see the need for gloves. However, in the summer I use wood and I find the "stickem'" and pine tar hard on the hands. These gloves provide a bit of protection against these things, as well as better grip and a bit of padding. However, having owned top of the line Nike, Mizuno and Rawlings gloves, I can tell you that these gloves are mid-grade at best in terms of leather quality. I expect this will negatively impact durability over the long haul.

good gloves but no grip I suggest buying pine tar with these gloves but they are very durable
