used bases without anchors directly on grass to practice and bases did not move at all when the kids ran the bases. Only thing bad its heavier than foam filled bases but its worth the trouble.

The base itself, which is attached to a hard rubber "leg", that goes into the metal anchor, provides just a little "give" to help protect players legs from hard slides. The base doesn't move around because the bottom has "treads" that grab the dirt. I would buy them again.

Bought this as a cheaper alternative. Works very well. The base stem (goes into the ground) is a bit hard to insert initially, but some grease makes it a snap. No problems with quality. Thought the stem would easily come off for better storage but it does not (easily at least).
