Bought for my kids who resisted use of cup but these shorts helped make it more comfortable to wear cup. They wear these shorts all time including when swimming (of course w/o cup but try to figure that one out)

not much padding on the butt. Just a double layer of the fabric on both sides. Feel a little snug and I'm a skinny guy. Breathe well and are comfortable.

my sons use these sliding pants for baseball and they love them - been through alot of different sliding pants and so far they like these the best not to thick, not too thin and they wash great - best bargain for your money.

I play college baseball and sliding shorts are usually short lived for me. These however have lasted pretty long and still fit good after i wash them. They do run big though so order once size smaller than you think you need. (I normally wear XL i had to get a L in these)
